Tighe Racing is no stranger to the racing world. The father and son team has been racing in various platforms for decades. Back in 2014, Robert Tighe III made a big jump from SFWD to the Pro RWD drag class with a RWD B series-powered Pro Stock Cobalt re-badged as a Honda Civic. The B18-powered Civic laid 1,500+ HP boosted by a 80mm turbo.
The team campaigned the Civic mostly at PDRA events in the Top Sportsman class. While PDRA races are 1/8 mile based events, back in Nov 3, 2016 at Maryland International Raceway during World Cup Finals Import vs Domestic, Tighe III piloted the Civic to a staggering firstname.lastname@example.org MPH in the 1/4 mile, becoming the World’s Quickest B-series powered Honda. As the year came to an end, Tighe Racing went back home and strategized their plans for the next season.
During the off season, the team made some big changes to the car with the plans of stepping up their game in the sport. The car got re-badged to a Scion tC and the Honda engine got switched to a Toyota combination. Under the hood now lies a 2JZ power plant and a 94mm turbo delivering 2,000+ HP.
Their main focus will still be racing at PDRA, but now they’ll challenge the stronger V8s in the Pro Boost class. Last season EKanoo Racing as well as Mech Tech Racing brought their Import powered cars to large cubic inch dominated PDRA and left a big impression with the racers and their fans, establishing impressive 3.8s across the scoreboards. This season, the Pro Boost class started extremely strong with various V8 teams running impressive 3.6s and 3.7s, and regardless of Tighe’s team being visualized as the underdogs, they are ready for the challenge and ready to step up to represent for Team Imports. Tighe Racing also plans to make a few Import event appearances such as the Pan American Nationals and the World Cup Finals Import vs Domestic.
